Creating the best customer experience with click & collect

26.10.2020 | Cleveron

There’s no doubt about it – click and collect or BOPIS (buy online pick-up in-store) is here to stay and growing globally. This omnichannel delivery sector is expanding across retail categories beyond well-known general merchandise players like Walmart, to specialty retailers like Zara, Decathlon, and Canadian Tire, just to name a few. And into new retail sectors like grocery.

The introduction of click & collect started off as an omnichannel merchandise delivery option designed to combat big online players like Amazon. While it has served this purpose for the most part, the consumer experience of many first-generation click and collect solutions left much to be desired.

Customers often ended up queuing in line for check-out, or at a click and collect desk at the back of the store with store staff required to dedicate increased time handling clunky logistics and searching for merchandise.

Making it easy for everyone

The future of retail is here with this next evolution of click and collect – or click and collect 2.0. Automated robotics-based click and collect solutions are pushing the boundaries in retail omnichannel strategies by offering seamless experiences for customers and making it easy for retailers.

How it works

The most effective robotics-based automated click and collect solutions place the consumer experience as a top priority. Ease of use and speed – from online check out all the way through merchandise pick-up – are choreographed through the use of integrated supply chain, logistics channels, and sophisticated robotics technology. For retailers, loading the parcel robots requires minimal training and lowers staff time enabling retail associates more time on the floor for sales and customer service.

What’s new

Online grocery shopping is one of the fastest sectors of e-commerce. The desire for convenience, shifting consumer tastes and preferences and price/quality considerations have all bolstered demand for online grocery. Meanwhile, rapid improvements in the speed and availability of same-day delivery have improved the customer experience.

Let us introduce Cleveron 501. This robotics-based automated pickup solution enables consumers to pick-up online grocery orders in as little as 20 seconds. It’s two temperature zones ensure all goods, from granola to bananas to ice cream can be safely stored until ready for pick-up. The robot is filled through one user console so there is no need for the courier nor the customer to walk between different locker doors. Cleveron 501 also enables the grocers to offer 24/7 convenient self-service outdoor pick-up. The robot can be placed next to a supermarket, in busy city centers, university campuses, and other locations where retail space is expensive.
